Verse of the Day 11/30

Verse of the Day 11/30

Ephesians 1:11-12   In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will, 12 so that we who were the first to hope in Christ might be to the praise of his glory.  English Standard Version (ESV)

For today's verses we'll continue in Ephesians 1 with our thoughts directed to what we have "in Him", in Christ.   Verse 11 states that we have obtained an inheritance.  We have "obtained" it not through our own efforts but through His grace, His love, and His mercy as we have been adopted into His family.  I like the way The Message paraphrase translates the beginning of the verses:  "It's in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for."

"We've obtained an inheritance" made me think of John 14 and the place, the "mansion" being  prepared for us.   This led me to the old hymn "I've Got a Mansion Just Over the Hilltop"
Don't think me poor or deserted or lonely
I'm not discouraged I'm heaven bound
I'm but a pilgrim in search of the city
I want a mansion, a harp and a crown
I've got a mansion just over the hilltop
In that bright land where we'll never grow old
And some day yonder we will never more wander
But walk on streets that are purest gold
If you've been adopted into His family, praise Him for it today.   Thank Him that you know who you are, more  importantly "whose" you are, you have found what you're living for while still being a pilgrim, looking forward to that mansion in the heavenly city.

Blessings,
Mike

Ephesians 1:11-12The Message (MSG)
11-12 It's in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for. Long before we first heard of Christ and got our hopes up, he had his eye on us, had designs on us for glorious living, part of the overall purpose he is working out in everything and everyone.
