Verse of the Day 9/15

Verse of the Day 9/15

2 Corinthians 1:21-22
English Standard Version

21 And it is God who establishes us with you in Christ, and has anointed us, 22 and who has also put his seal on us and given us his Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.

In many sports, there are minor and major leagues.  When a rookie is first called up to the "big leagues" they are exicted but at the same time they realize that they now have to prove themselves worthy of being called up.  Their desire is to become established, firm in their place on the team and this is borne out by being put in the lineup and by new contracts rewarding them for their performance.

For the Christian we do not have to achieve things on our own.  God through the Holy Spirit establishes and secures us in Christ.  Daily we are to draw upon His power, His grace. He has put His seal upon us confirming that we are His, we belong to Him and this should give confidence that we are secure in Him.

Verse 20 speaks of "all the promises of God" find their yes, their confirmation in Him and we acknowledge Him through our prayers and our praise.

John Piper writes this about prayer and the promises of God, "Prayer is not hoping in the dark that there might be a God of good intentions out there. Prayer goes to the bank every day and draws on promises for the future grace needed for that day Prayer is the confident plea for God to make good on his promises of future grace for Christ's sake. Prayer links our faith in future grace with the foundation of it all, Jesus Christ."

if God has put His seal on you, go to Him, praise Him for the promises received and the future grace that is built on the love of Christ.

Blessings,
Mike

2 Corinthians 1:18-22
English Standard Version

18 As surely as God is faithful, our word to you has not been Yes and No. 19 For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, whom we proclaimed among you, Silvanus and Timothy and I, was not Yes and No, but in him it is always Yes. 20 For all the promises of God find their Yes in him. That is why it is through him that we utter our Amen to God for his glory. 21 And it is God who establishes us with you in Christ, and has anointed us, 22 and who has also put his seal on us and given us his Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.
