Verse of the Day 12/23

Verse of the Day 12/23

Psalm 8:3-4
English Standard Version

When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers,
    the moon and the stars, which you have set in place,
what is man that you are mindful of him,
    and the son of man that you care for him?

Today's verses come from Psalm 8, one of my favorite Psalms.  The verses are a couple of more verses that may not be your traditional "Christmas" verses, but the question "what is man that you are mindful of him" is one that receives it's answer in Christmas.  We are precious to Him, so much so that He would send Jesus, who put on flesh to come down and bring us salvation.

When we consider the Christmas story, we read that the wise men followed the star, which was hung in place by God; to find the child who would be king.  He directed the angels to make the proclamation to the lowly shepherds, who rejoiced at the news.

Take some time to appreciate the works of His fingers that we see all around  us, and remember also, that He is mindful of us and has given us everything we have and enjoy, and especially Jesus, our most precious gift.  May your heart be filled with joy at the thought. Praise God and proclaim that "there is room in my heart" for Him.

1 Thou didst leave Thy throne and Thy kingly crown,
When Thou camest to earth for me;
But in Bethlehem's home was there found no room
For Thy holy nativity.
O come to my heart, Lord Jesus,
There is room in my heart for Thee.

2 Heaven's arches rang when the angels sang,
Proclaiming Thy royal degree;
But of lowly birth didst Thou come to earth,
And in great humility.
O come to my heart, Lord Jesus,
There is room in my heart for Thee.

3 The foxes found rest, and the birds their nest
In the shade of the forest tree;
But Thy couch was the sod, O Thou Son of God,
In the deserts of Galilee.
O come to my heart, Lord Jesus,
There is room in my heart for Thee

Blessings,
Mike

Ephesians 1:7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace.  NIV

How Majestic Is Your Name

To the choirmaster: according to The Gittith.[a] A Psalm of David.

Lord, our Lord,
    how majestic is your name in all the earth!
You have set your glory above the heavens.
    Out of the mouth of babies and infants,
you have established strength because of your foes,
    to still the enemy and the avenger.

When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers,
    the moon and the stars, which you have set in place,
what is man that you are mindful of him,
    and the son of man that you care for him?

Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings[b]

     and crowned him with glory and honor.
You have given him dominion over the works of your hands;
    you have put all things under his feet,
all sheep and oxen,
    and also the beasts of the field,
the birds of the heavens, and the fish of the sea,
    whatever passes along the paths of the seas.

Lord, our Lord,
    how majestic is your name in all the earth!
