Verse of the Day 9/9
Psalm 130:5-6 English Standard Version (ESV)
5I wait for the LORD, my soul waits,
and in his word I hope;
6my soul waits for the Lord
more than watchmen for the morning,
more than watchmen for the morning.
Yesterday we considered what it meant to be one who desired to be a doorkeeper at the house of God, waiting for a word from his Master. In today's verse we have a seen of a guard, one who has drawn the duty of standing watch in the dark hours before the dawn.
Picture a soldier keeping watch with an impending invasion of the enemy. What gives him hope what does he look for? It is not just light itself, it is the familiar light of the sun. Any other light that comes over the horizon would be the enemy there. If one such person knows the true sun he would be able to see the enemy for what he is.
Many of you may have experienced the "dark night of the soul" or perhaps are going through it right now. I know what it is like. But if you are in Christ there is hope, hope that the Sun will rise with healing in His wings", healing in the way of deliverance from the enemy whether it by physical, spiritual or emotional. We've seen the sun rise before. We believe that it will rise again. So it is to be a watchman. With that hope in God we can be overcomers of what the enemy throws at us. I'm reminded of a few lines from the Matt Redman song "You Never Let Go".
1 John 5:4-5 English Standard Version (ESV) For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world— our faith. 5Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?
Blessings,
Mike

Psalm 130 English Standard Version (ESV)
My Soul Waits for the Lord
1Out of the depths I cry to you, O LORD!2O Lord, hear my voice!
Let your ears be attentive
to the voice of my pleas for mercy!
3If you, O LORD, should mark iniquities,
O Lord, who could stand?
4But with you there is forgiveness,
that you may be feared.
5I wait for the LORD, my soul waits,
and in his word I hope;
6my soul waits for the Lord
more than watchmen for the morning,
more than watchmen for the morning.
7O Israel, hope in the LORD!
For with the LORD there is steadfast love,
and with him is plentiful redemption.
8And he will redeem Israel
from all his iniquities.
