Verse of the Day weekend 11/12

Verse of the day 11/12
1 Corinthians 9:24 English Standard Version (ESV) 24Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it.

I downloaded some of John Bunyzn's cllassics and just stared reading "The Heavenly Footman'. This weekend's verse is the basis for the book. We, as Christians are all involved in this race, this marathon we call life. But what exactly are we running for and how can we attain it.

If you looked at most of our lives, would someone else think that eternal life in the Kingdom of God is what we desire above all else?

Bunyan writes, "this running, in another place is called "a continuing in the way of life." If you continue in the faith grounded, and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel of Christ (Col. 1:23).
Not to run a little now and a little then, by fits and starts, or halfway, or almost there, but to run for my life, to run through all the difficulties, and continue therein to the end of the race, which must be the end of my life. So run that you may obtain."

May we answer that call and run that we may obtain it. To do so will require that we lean on the everlasting arms that we thought and perhaps, sang about in Friday's post.

Blessings,
Mike

1 Corinthians 9:22-27 New Living Translation (NLT)
22 When I am with those who are weak, I share their weakness, for I want to bring the weak to Christ. Yes, I try to find common ground with everyone, doing everything I can to save some. 23 I do everything to spread the Good News and share in its blessings.

24 Don't you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win! 25 All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize. 26 So I run with purpose in every step. I am not just shadowboxing. 27 I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified.
