Verse of the Day 7/28
1 Timothy 3:16 NLT 16 Without question, this is the great mystery of our faith:
Christ was revealed in a human body
and vindicated by the Spirit.
He was seen by angels
and announced to the nations.
He was believed in throughout the world
and taken to heaven in glory.
I read this verse this morning in my devotional reading. As I sat back and considered it for a time, I was astonished that I had never truly realized what a "gem" it truly is. A gem has many cuts which reflect light at different angles showing off the gem's brilliance. This verse can be looked at from many angles, all showing God's brilliance, the glory of the Gospel.
It speaks of the great mystery of our faith (NLT) which causes us to look back at the Old Testament which looked for and anticipated Jesus coming from Genesis, through Psalms, the prophets (major and minor). They looked forward to the coming of the Messiah when He would be revealed to his people. We look back to the New Testament, and how God was made manifest in Christ and the power and glory of God was put on display not only in Jesus Himself but in those who believed in Him and followed Him.
The context of the verse is the church of the living God, elsewhere called the bride of Christ. Through the power of Christ in His church His power and glory continues to shine and spread through the world as we look for that "glorious appearing" of His second coming.
Take some time this weekend to think about the great mystery of your faith.
In Christ,
Mike

1 Timothy 3:14-16 New Living Translation (NLT) The Truths of Our Faith
14 I am writing these things to you now, even though I hope to be with you soon, 15 so that if I am delayed, you will know how people must conduct themselves in the household of God. This is the church of the living God, which is the pillar and foundation of the truth.
16 Without question, this is the great mystery of our faith:
Christ was revealed in a human body
and vindicated by the Spirit.
He was seen by angels
and announced to the nations.
He was believed in throughout the world
and taken to heaven in glory.
