Verse of the Day 9/10

1 Peter 5:6-7 Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. New International Version (NIV)

In today's modern society there are countless things that can cause anxiety.  We take a look at the news and ready about the threats of terrorism, the ebola virus and countless other topics, never mind the concerns of our health (or healthcare), finances and relationships.

Being a Christian doesn't free us from anxiety but it does give us a place, actually a person that we can go to to release, to overcome those anxieties and to clear our minds.

John Piper reminds us that "It does not say, you will never feel any anxieties.  It says 'when you have them, cast them on God.  When the mud splatters your windshield and you temporarily lose sight of the road and start to swerve in anxiety, turn on your wipers and squirt your windshield washer.... The windshield wipers are the promises of God that clear away the mud of unbelief, and the windshield washer fluid is the help of the Holy Spirit."

If anxiety puts mud on your windshield today, don't keep driving on your own, thinking you can make it through, turn on your wipers and use the windshield washer fluid.  Cast your anxieties, the Amplified Bible says "the whole of your care" on God and through His Word and the work of the Spirit, He will give you a clear windshield to see through.

Blessings,
Mike

1 Peter 5:6-8Amplified Bible (AMP)

Therefore humble yourselves [demote, lower yourselves in your own estimation] under the mighty hand of God, that in due time He may exalt you,
Casting the [a]whole of your care [all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns,[b]once and for all] on Him, for He cares for you affectionately and cares about you[c]watchfully.
Be well balanced (temperate, sober of mind), be vigilant and cautious at all times; for that enemy of yours, the devil, roams around like a lion roaring [[d]in fierce hunger], seeking someone to seize upon and devour.
