Verse of the Day 7/13

Verse of the Day 7/13

2 Timothy 1:7    For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.  New King James Version (NKJV)

Spending  time  in God's  Word, the Bible, is a good, no, the  best way to start the  day.  Now let  me back up, I'll say "prayerfully" spending  time  in God's Word.  As we read, meditate and  pray on God's word He will prepare us  for  the  day and  what He has in store for  us.  For  most of us, each day will have its challenges, obstacles and even roadblocks (or  airport delays) and plans that we had may fall  apart.  Timothy faced Roman persecution with the city being under  the control of  Nero.  Now that is being  challenged.  People in those circumstances can easily be controlled by their fears.

Paul's advice to Timothy and  to us is  to not be controlled by our  fears but  to draw  upon God's power.  David Jeremiah writes, "If you are  controlled  by fears, confess your  unbelief to God and  ask  Him to fill you with  His  Holy Spirit. The  Bible  is filled  with "fear nots".  God doesn't want  us to  live  in anxiety,  dread, fretfulness, or  insecurity.  We have to cast out those attitudes.  "For God has not  given  us  a spirit of fear, but of power and  of  love and of a sound mind."

The Message, below, tells us not  to be  "shy with his gifts, but bold and loving and sensible."

His Word  and  His Spirit's presence can do this for us.

I'm reminded of the Morris  Chapman song that  we sang  at Promise  Keepers events  years  ago, as you read, study,  meditate,  pray and  praise God may it  be your  experience today.

Be bold, be strong
For the Lord your God is with you
Be bold, be strong
For the Lord your God is with you
I am not afraid
I am not dismayed
Because I'm walking in faith and victory
Come on and walk in faith and victory
For the Lord your God is with you

Blessings,

Mike

2 Timothy 1:7The Message (MSG)
5-7 That precious memory triggers another: your honest faith—and what a rich faith it is, handed down from your grandmother Lois to your mother Eunice, and now to you! And the special gift of ministry you received when I laid hands on you and prayed—keep that ablaze! God doesn't want us to be shy with his gifts, but bold and loving and sensible.
