Verse of the Day 7/9

Verse of the Day 7/9

Psalm 12:6-7  The words of the Lord are pure words,

    like silver refined in a furnace on the ground,
    purified seven times.

You, O Lord, will keep them;
    you will guard us[a] from this generation forever.   English Standard Version (ESV)

We've considered how God's Word will endure forever, that heaven and earth may pass away but His Word "will not pass away" Matthew 24:35.  Reading today's verses in Psalm 12 draw upon that premise.  In  a corrupt world, then and even more so now, His Word is pure, unpolluted, without corruption through the years.  Reading them, heeding the Word will guard us from the corruption of our generation.

I've been reading in Max Lucado's NKJV "Life Lessons Study Bible" where he writes:

"Rely on Scripture. Doubt your doubts before you doubt your beliefs. Jesus told Satan, "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God" (Matthew 4:4). The verb proceeds is literally "pouring out." Its tense suggests that God is constantly and aggressively communicating with the world through His Word. God is speaking still!"

God is pouring out His heart to us in His Word, are we willing to read it and heed it, to turn to it for help in "this generation"?

Lucado continues:  "The Book of Psalms describes God's help as a . . .   • support ( 18:18 ),   • broad place ( 18:19 ),   • secret place ( 27:5 ; 31:20 ),   • higher place or rock ( 18:2 ; 27:5 ; 40:2 ; 61:2 ),   • hiding place ( 27:5 ; 32:7 ), • fortress ( 18:2 ; 91:2 ),   • shield ( 18:2 ), and as • wings ( 17:8 ; 61:4 ; 91:4 )."    If you are in need of any of these things, turn to the pure, enduring Word of God today.  Take some time, find some solitude and dwell on it.  I'm reminded of what David wrote in Psalm 25:

Psalm 25:4-5 Show me Your ways, O Lord;

Teach me Your paths.
Lead me in Your truth and teach me,
For You are the God of my salvation;
On You I wait all the day.    New King James Version (NKJV)

Psalm 12:6-8The Message (MSG)

6-8 God's words are pure words,
Pure silver words refined seven times
In the fires of his word-kiln,
Pure on earth as well as in heaven.
God, keep us safe from their lies,
From the wicked who stalk us with lies,
From the wicked who collect honors
For their wonderful lies.
