Verse of the Day 12/22

Verse of the Day 12/22

Luke 1:38  And Mary said, "Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word." And the angel departed from her.

How well do you "change gears"?   How willing are we to alter our plans when called upon to do so?  As we head towards Christmas and then on towards the new year, many are already in the process of formulating goals for the coming year.  It is not a bad thing, but is should not become an all consuming thing, nor something that has to be set in stone.

We've recently looked at Jonah, the reluctant prophet and his unwillingness to change and to submit to God's calling.  Today's verse show a 180 degree contrast.  Mary was young, but she still had plans, plans to be married and begin a new life.  What the angel said to her had to stun her, but we see know sign of the attitude of Jonah of trying to run away.  There was no arguing with God, we don't see any anger towards God in all of it.  We do see grace in the person of Mary and of Joseph.  We see hearts willing to change course, to follow God's leading not only in Mary and Joseph, but also the Wise Men that would come from afar, and make that journey to see the Christ child, the coming King.

Jonah was called to bring a salvation message to a great city.  In Mary's obedience, God was bringing the opportunity for salvation to the world.

Mary and Joseph would be the first to adore this little child, the Savior of the World.  The Wise Men would be on their journey and worship him on their arrival.  People through the ages who believe, come to worship Him every Christmas.  Come, let us adore Him this Christmas and every day of our lives.  Lord, let it be.

O come, all ye faithful,
Joyful and triumphant,
O come ye, O come ye to Bethlehem.
Come and behold Him,
Born the King of Angels!

Sing, alleluia,
All ye choirs of angels;
O sing, all ye blissful ones of heav'n above.
Glory to God
In the highest glory!

Yea, Lord, we greet Thee,
Born this happy morning;
Jesus, to Thee be the glory giv'n;
Word of the Father,
Now in the flesh appearing,

O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
Christ the Lord.

Luke 1:38-45The Message (MSG)

36-38 "And did you know that your cousin Elizabeth conceived a son, old as she is? Everyone called her barren, and here she is six months pregnant! Nothing, you see, is impossible with God."

And Mary said,

Yes, I see it all now:
    I'm the Lord's maid, ready to serve.
Let it be with me
    just as you say.

Then the angel left her.

Blessed Among Women

39-45 Mary didn't waste a minute. She got up and traveled to a town in Judah in the hill country, straight to Zachariah's house, and greeted Elizabeth. When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, the baby in her womb leaped. She was filled with the Holy Spirit, and sang out exuberantly,

You're so blessed among women,
    and the babe in your womb, also blessed!
And why am I so blessed that
    the mother of my Lord visits me?
The moment the sound of your
    greeting entered my ears,
The babe in my womb
    skipped like a lamb for sheer joy.
Blessed woman, who believed what God said,
    believed every word would come true!
