Verse of the Day 12/3

Verse of the Day 12/3

John 16:33  I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world."    English Standard Version (ESV)

We are now into the Advent Season, preparing our hearts and looking forward to the celebration of Christmas, when God came near in the form of the baby Jesus and bring peace to the hearts of people then and now who live in a world of tribulation.  Jesus had not died yet, he had not been resurrected but His mission was determined, it was to be, He had overcome the world.

In our  world, every day we face choices and many of them will cause us to ask ourselves "do I believe" (see verse 31 below).  Every day we have the choice, we can make "a run for it" away from God or we can run to God where we will be "unshakeable and assured".

Most of you have probably seen Google Earth where you plug in an address and as you see the world from outer space, the computer takes over and zooms down to the country, the region the town and down to the exact address and even gives you the street view.  It helped me think of how it was when Jesus came when God came down to Bethlehem, to that manger  scene to that street view in the quiet little town.  At that moment He overcame the world.  It would never be the same, praise God for it.  God who was and is above all came down.

Above all powers
Above all kings
Above all nature and all created things
Above all wisdom and all the ways of man
You were here before the world began
Above all kingdoms
Above all thrones
Above all wonders the world has ever known
Above all wealth and treasures of the earth
There's no way to measure what you're worth

Jesus, the greatest given came for us, overcame for us so that we may be overcomes,  there is no way we can measure what that is worth.

John 16:33The Message (MSG)

31-33 Jesus answered them, "Do you finally believe? In fact, you're about to make a run for it—saving your own skins and abandoning me. But I'm not abandoned. The Father is with me. I've told you all this so that trusting me, you will be unshakable and assured, deeply at peace. In this godless world you will continue to experience difficulties. But take heart! I've conquered the world."
