Verse of the Day 12/8/17

 

1 John 5:11-12  And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. ¹² Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of  God does not have life.  English Standard Version (ESV)

 

As a believer reads these verses he or she should see immediately that they are wonderful words, as the old song goes "wonderful words of life".  Wonderful words not only for this life but for eternal life with the author and giver of life.

 

This letter began with the Apostle John writing about Jesus, the "Word of life".  1 John 1:1 

The Word of Life

1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we looked upon and have touched with our hands, concerning the word of life—

English Standard Version (ESV)

 

God provides His Word to guide us, to show us to teach us about Jesus, the Word of life.  In trusting and believing in Him we can have everlasting life.  Without Him this is impossible.

 

Along with the old hymn "Wonderful Words of Life" that I referenced earlier, a more recent song that you may hear on the radio came to mind regarding the Word of Life:

 

Word of life
Speak to my weary heart
Strengthen my broken parts
Lead me to Your open arms
Word of truth
Illuminate all these lies
The enemy speaks inside
In freedom I will rise

 

'Cause You called me out from the grave
So I can live like I've been changed
There is a new song in my soul
And it begins when I breathe in
Your word of life

 

Do you have this Word of Life in you, that speaks to your weary heart when you need it?  If you do you know that this life is in His Son Jesus, if you don't these today's verses tell you where to find it.a

1 John 5:10-13New Living Translation (NLT)

¹⁰ All who believe in the Son of God know in their hearts that this testimony is true. Those who don't believe this are actually calling God a liar because they don't believe what God has testified about his Son.

¹¹ And this is what God has testified: He has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. ¹² Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have God's Son does not have life.

Conclusion

¹³ I have written this to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know you have eternal life.
