Verse of the Day 2/9

Verse of the Day 2/9

Deuteronomy 30:14   But the word is very near you. It is in your mouth and in your heart, so that you can do it.   English Standard Version (ESV)

Many of you may have started a Bible reading plan this year. How is that going for you? Hopefully, it is going well and soon it will become a habit where you won't have to think about it.  Today it is much easier to realize that the Word is very near us.  As I'm writing this I have my eBible open to this passage and I've looked up different translations from Bible Gateway on my laptop.  Most of us probably have a Bible app or kindle on our iPhones and iPads.  More than that, if we have been reading and meditating on God's Word as we read it daily, we carry it in our hearts and in our minds.

When Moses wrote this it wasn't as easy to come by and there was nowhere near the content of the whole Bible that we have.  But even then as now His Word was light and it was life.

Julie Ackerman Link writes, "God's will for us is life. His Word is life. And Jesus is the Word. God may not give a prescription for every decision, but He gave us a perfect example to follow—Jesus. The right choice may not be easy, but when the Word is our guide and worship is our goal, God will grant us the wisdom to make life-affirming choices."

God's Word was given to Moses and he put it into words that the people could understand.  So it is with us today.  We have His Word and our pastors and Bible teachers break it down for us to understand.  We have commentaries  and books about every book of the Bible.  The key thing is that we spend time in it and then obey it, "do it" as Moses said.  When we do we will "really live".  Read below.

Deuteronomy 30:15-16 The Message (MSG)

15 Look at what I've done for you today: I've placed in front of you
    Life and Good
    Death and Evil.

16 And I command you today: Love God, your God. Walk in his ways. Keep his commandments, regulations, and rules so that you will live, really live, live exuberantly, blessed by God, your God, in the land you are about to enter and possess.

Deuteronomy 30:11-16 New King James Version (NKJV)

The Choice of Life or Death

11 "For this commandment which I command you today is [a]not too mysterious for you, nor is it far off. 12 It is not in heaven, that you should say, 'Who will ascend into heaven for us and bring it to us, that we may hear it and do it?' 13 Nor is it beyond the sea, that you should say, 'Who will go over the sea for us and bring it to us, that we may hear it and do it?' 14 But the word is very near you, in your mouth and in your heart, that you may do it.

15 "See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil, 16 in that I command you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in His ways, and to keep His commandments, His statutes, and His judgments, that you may live and multiply; and the Lord your God will bless you in the land which you go to possess.
