Verse of the Day 5/11

Verse of the Day 5/11

Acts 17:24-25   "The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by human hands. 25 And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything. Rather, he himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else.   New International Version (NIV)

In spite of the pandemic that is going on in the world, here in North Carolina it has been one of the most beautiful spring seasons that I can remember.  Today we woke up to bright sunshine, crystal clear blue skies with cool breezes pointing to another glorious day.  I read these  verses in my devotions this morning and couldn't help but think of the God who created all of this and that He loves and is concerned about me and every other person that will be reading His Word and all those who follow Him.

God "doesn't need" us, but we need Him.  If we don't devote our lives to Him, He will have someone else complete the work that He has ordained will be done.  Nonetheless it is He that gives "everyone life and breath and everything else."  God is served when we follow Him, when we obey His call upon our lives and do His good will.  As the song goes, our job is to "trust and obey" the creator, the Lord of heaven and earth".

I've been listening to Third Day a lot lately and as I read these verses, their song "God of Wonders" resonated in my mind.

Lord of all creation
Of water earth and sky
The heavens are Your Tabernacle
Glory to the Lord on high

Early in the morning
I will celebrate the light
When I stumble in the darkness
I will call Your Name by night

[Chorus:]
God of wonders beyond our galaxy
You are Holy, Holy
The universe declares Your Majesty
And You are Holy Holy
Lord of Heaven and Earth
Lord of Heaven and Earth

I hope that you will be able to enjoy this beautiful day and as you do praise the Lord of heaven and earth for it.

Acts 17:22-31 New King James Version (NKJV)

Addressing the Areopagus

22 Then Paul stood in the midst of the [a]Areopagus and said, "Men of Athens, I perceive that in all things you are very religious; 23 for as I was passing through and considering the objects of your worship, I even found an altar with this inscription:

TO THE UNKNOWN GOD.

Therefore, the One whom you worship without knowing, Him I proclaim to you: 24 God, who made the world and everything in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands. 25 Nor is He worshiped with men's hands, as though He needed anything, since He gives to all life, breath, and all things. 26 And He has made from one [b]blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined their preappointed times and the boundaries of their dwellings, 27 so that they should seek the Lord, in the hope that they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us; 28 for in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said, 'For we are also His offspring.' 29 Therefore, since we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Divine Nature is like gold or silver or stone, something shaped by art and man's devising. 30 Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent, 31 because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead."
