2 Corinthians 1:3-4New International Version
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.
In yesterday's verse we considered how Jesus said that we will face suffering but that in Him we may have peace even in the midst of the trials. Today's verses from the Apostle Paul convey a similar message that our God is the "God of all comfort who comforts us in all our troubles". It requires faith and that faith put into action gives us strength and courage not only for ourselves but to be shared with others who may be going through the same kind of trials that we are facing.
It is the Holy Spirit working in our lives the accomplishes this. John Calvin writes these comforts "are not to be kept by us to ourselves, but everyone must communicate to others what he has received." If we have received this comfort through trials may we put our faith into action to help others and encourage them in the same way that we have been helped. It is not a "wishy washy" hope, it is solid, steadfast and courageous.
You were made for so much more
Let the pounding of our hearts cry
We will serve the Lord
And we're taking back the fight
We were made to be courageous
And it starts with us tonight
Is on our knees with lifted hands
Make us courageous
Lord, make us courageous. (Courageous - Casting Crowns)
2 Corinthians 1:7
New King James Version
And our hope for you is steadfast, because we know that as you are partakers of the sufferings, so also you will partake of the consolation.
Blessings,
Mike

2 Corinthians 1:3-7New King James VersionComfort in Suffering
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any [a]trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. 5 For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our [b]consolation also abounds through Christ. 6 Now if we are afflicted, it is for your consolation and salvation, which is effective for enduring the same sufferings which we also suffer. Or if we are comforted, it is for your consolation and salvation. 7 And our hope for you is steadfast, because we know that as you are partakers of the sufferings, so also you will partake of the consolation.
