Verse of the Day 8/8

Hosea 4:1-2

New Living Translation

Hear the word of the Lord, O people of Israel!

    The Lord has brought charges against you, saying:
"There is no faithfulness, no kindness,
    no knowledge of God in your land.
2 You make vows and break them;
    you kill and steal and commit adultery.
There is violence everywhere—
    one murder after another.

The "Today in the Word" devotional has been going through the book of Hosea.  The nation had fallen into syncretism and worshipping other gods, everyone basically forming their own religion which is no religion at all.  Reading today's verses and passage were sobering.  It was a stern warning and judgment against Israel and it's leaders, telling them that there will be consequences.

As we step back and take a look at society today we could easily say the same kind of things.  While I wouldn't say "no" would be used in each of the examples given, we may easily replace it with "little" or " a lack of" — faithfulness; kindness; and knowledge of the true God in this land.  We see vows broken all the time, there is killing and theft caught on videotape on the street and in stores with little or no repercussion.  we also see violence everywhere, murder in our major cities committed out in the open in broad daylight.

It is evident that things cannot go on like they are without serious repercussions.  But what we need is revival a turning back to God, THE God of the Bible.

We need to share the Gospel, we need to share God's love and we need to put our faith on display and be willing to take a stand on it when called upon, challenged to do so.  It happens one person at time.

Until the whole world knows 
That each one can reach one
As we follow after Christ we all can lead one
We can lead one to the Savior
And together we can tell the world that Jesus is the way

Be praying today for revival.  May we consider what we can do to reach someone to come to know that Jesus is the way.

The Lord Accuses Israel
4 Hear the word of the Lord, O children of Israel,
    for the Lord has a controversy with the inhabitants of the land.
There is no faithfulness or steadfast love,
    and no knowledge of God in the land;
2 there is swearing, lying, murder, stealing, and committing adultery;
    they break all bounds, and bloodshed follows bloodshed.
3 Therefore the land mourns,
    and all who dwell in it languish,
and also the beasts of the field
    and the birds of the heavens,
    and even the fish of the sea are taken away.
4 Yet let no one contend,
    and let none accuse,
    for with you is my contention, O priest.[a]
5 You shall stumble by day;
    the prophet also shall stumble with you by night;
    and I will destroy your mother.
6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge;
    because you have rejected knowledge,
    I reject you from being a priest to me.
And since you have forgotten the law of your God,
    I also will forget your children.
7 The more they increased,
    the more they sinned against me;
    I will change their glory into shame.
