Verse of the Day 8/7

Verse of the Day 8/7

Romans 8:1-2

New King James Version

There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who  do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.

Romans 8 came up in the read through the New Testament plan that I follow.  It is one of, if not my favorite chapters in the Bible.  It also contains what I would call my life verse in verse 28 - "for we know that all things work together for good for those who love God and are called according to His purpose."

We deserve condemnation for any number of things that we have done.  We face many accusers, Satan being number 1, who would love to put us down and have us walk away from God because of our failures.  But these verses remind us that if we are in Him, if we have received Christ, we are set free from guilt and condemnation.

A devotional that I read this morning brought this home.  Max Lucado was expounding upon John 8:10-11 where a woman caught in adultery stood before accusers who were ready to stone her.  Jesus famously knelt down and wronged in the dirt then took a stand for the woman and responded to her accusers saying "he who is without sin cast the first stone", at which point they dropped the stones and walked away.  Jesus then stood up and responded to the woman.

10 When Jesus stood up, He said to her, "Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?"

11 "No one, Lord,"  she answered.

"Neither do I condemn you," said Jesus. "Go, and from now on do not sin anymore."

Instead of condemnation there was grace and forgiveness, mercy and a path towards healing.  He took a stand for her and He will for you to.

And to all of the people with burdens and pains
Keeping you back from your life
You believe that there's nothing and there is no one
Who can make it right
There is hope for the helpless
Rest for the weary
And love for the broken heart
And there is grace and forgiveness
Mercy and healing
He'll meet you wherever you are
Cry out to Jesus
Cry out to Jesus       (Cry Out to Jesus - Third Day)
Cry out to Him.  Instead of condemnation you may experience that the "Spirit is life" (Romans 8:10).

Blessings,

Mike

The Life-Giving Spirit

Therefore, no condemnation now exists for those in Christ Jesus,[a] because the Spirit's law of life in Christ Jesus has set you[b] free from the law of sin and of death. What the law could not do since it was limited[c] by the flesh, God did. He condemned sin in the flesh by sending His own Son in flesh like ours under sin's domain,[d] and as a sin offering, in order that the law's requirement would be accomplished in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. For those who live[e] according to the flesh think about the things of the flesh, but those who live[f] according to the Spirit, about the things of the Spirit. For the mind-set of the flesh is death, but the mind-set of the Spirit is life and peace. For the mind-set of the flesh is hostile to God because it does not submit itself to God's law, for it is unable to do so. Those who are in the flesh cannot please God. You, however, are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, since[g] the Spirit of God lives in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him. 10 Now if Christ is in you, the body is dead[h] because of sin, but the Spirit[i] is life because of righteousness.
