Verse of the Day 8/15

Verse of the Day 8/15

Romans 8:14-15
English Standard Version

14 For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. 15 For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, "Abba! Father!"

Most of us are afraid of something, it could be spiders, snakes, sharks or for a child something as simple as jumping into a pool.  Left alone, we may become "slaves" to those fears.  We won't go into the ocean for fear of sharks, we won't go for a walk in the woods for fear of snakes; you get the picture. Those things may seem childish and often were a product of our childhood.  But we can overcome those fears and when we look back in our lives, it was often the influence and encouragement of our fathers that helped us overcome our fears.

How many of you can remember standing beside the pool with your father in the water encouraging you to jump, saying don't worry, I'm here to catch you.  Most likely, you have done the same thing for your child.  Once you have the courage to make the jump, you are no longer a slave to that fear. So many times we are slaves to fears in our spiritual lives.  It may be fear of trusting God in a difficult situation.  It may be fear of sharing your testimony with a friend. It may be dealing with an illness with an uncertain future. Today's verses and the Bible in general, call us to have faith, to cry out to your heavenly Father and to trust that He will help us, to see us through, to be overcomers.

You unravel me with a melody
You surround me with a song
Of deliverance from my enemies
'Til all my fears are gone

I'm no longer a slave to fear
I am a child of God
I'm no longer a slave to fear
I am a child of God

From my mother's womb
You have chosen me
Love has called my name
I've been born again to a family
Your blood flows through my veins

I'm no longer a slave to fear
I am a child of God.     (Bethel Music)

1 John 5:4
English Standard Version

For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.

Blessings,
Mike

Romans 8:1-11
English Standard Version

Life in the Spirit

There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.[a] For the law of the Spirit of life has set you[b] free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin,[c] he condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God's law; indeed, it cannot. Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him. 10 But if Christ is in you, although the body is dead because of sin, the Spirit is life because of righteousness. 11 If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.
