Verse of the Day 8/4

Verse of the Day 8/4

Romans 3:23-24
English Standard Version

23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,

Yesterday we considered in Romans 1:16 how Paul wrote that he was "not ashamed of the gospel of Christ" for it was the power of God for salvation.  Throughout the book of Romans Paul expounds on the gospel plan.  Many refer to it as the Romans Road.

in today's verse we go to the beginning of that road, it is the understanding that we have fallen short of God's standard, we cannot do it on our own, we have "missed the mark".  In sports, whether it be baseball - the strike zone; basketball - the hoop; golf - the fairway and the hole; nobody hits the intended target every time.  They all fall short and miss the mark at some point.  Whatever sport it may be, if you ever hoped to develop into a good player, you will need coaching, training and put into practice what you learn.  That's what God's gracious gift offers us.  We are made right with God by His gift and He gives us the grace to become who He wants us to be.

The Romans Road begins with the bad news that we have missed the mark and fallen short but also tells us that there is good news, the gospel, we can be saved.

Romans 10:9-10
English Standard Version

because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.

Have you received His gracious gift?

Marvelous grace of our loving Lord,
Grace that exceeds our sin and our guilt!
Yonder on Calvary's mount out-poured–
There where the blood of the Lamb was spilt.

Refrain:
Grace, grace, God's grace,
Grace that will pardon and cleanse within;
Grace, grace, God's grace,
Grace that is greater than all our sin.

Marvelous, infinite, matchless grace,
Freely bestowed on all who believe!
All who are longing to see His face,
Will you this moment His grace receive?

Blessings,
Mike

Ephesians 1:7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace.  NIV

Romans 3:21-31
English Standard Version

The Righteousness of God Through Faith

21 But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it— 22 the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction: 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, 25 whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God's righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins. 26 It was to show his righteousness at the present time, so that he might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.

27 Then what becomes of our boasting? It is excluded. By what kind of law? By a law of works? No, but by the law of faith. 28 For we hold that one is justified by faith apart from works of the law. 29 Or is God the God of Jews only? Is he not the God of Gentiles also? Yes, of Gentiles also, 30 since God is one—who will justify the circumcised by faith and the uncircumcised through faith. 31 Do we then overthrow the law by this faith? By no means! On the contrary, we uphold the law.
