Verse of the Day 8/6

Verse of the Day 8/6

Romans 5:8
New King James Version

But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Having come to the realization that we are sinners in need of grace from Romans 3:23, today's verse shows the scope, the vastness and magnitude of God's love for us.  He doesn't tell us that we need to clean up our act and then come to Him.  "While we were yet sinners", still in sin, He died for us.

Notice that it says "demonstrates" not demonstrated.  It is ongoing.  It deals with past, present and future sins.

19th century pastor James Smith wrote:
"He loved us as sinners,
He died for us as sinners,
He called us as sinners,
He saves us as sinners,
He will have great glory by saving such great sinners.  We cannot do anything to repay Him for His wondrous love.  Salvation is by free grace - from first to last!  Believe this , and it will raise up your drooping mind."

What is our response to this great love?

On the mountains I will bow my life to the One who set me free;
In the valley I will lift my eyes to the One who sees me there;
When I'm standing on the mountain I didn't get there on my own;
When I'm walking through the valley I know I am not alone;
You're God of the hills and valleys, God of the hills and valleys;
And I am not alone.                                (Tauren Wells)

Ephesians 1:7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace.  NIV

Romans 5:6-11
New King James Version

Christ in Our Place

For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. 10 For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. 11 And not only that, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation.
