Verse of the Day 8/5

Verse of the Day 8/5

Romans 6:23
English Standard Version

23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

We considered yesterday from Romans 3:23 that "all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God".  That falling short is "missing the mark".  Today's verse brings us further down that Romans Road of the gospel and points out that the cost of our failures; what is due to us from our sins is death, which would be not only physical death but eternal separation from God.  Immediately after stating that, Paul states "but" the free gift of God is eternal life.

Take some time son consider the gravity, the enormity of that statement. Even though we've missed the mark, we've sinned and failed to meet God's commands and expectations for us; God still loved us enough to offer a way out, a way to break that cycle.  That way out, that bridge is Jesus, He bridges the gap between the human and the divine and offers us a fresh start at a new relationship with Him. one that brings a new covenant of life now and carries on through eternity with Him.

Have you found this new life?  If not, you can, receive it today.

Gone is the guilt of my sin,
Peace is now reigning within;
Since I believed, pardon received,
Happy, so happy I've been!

Chorus
New Life in Christ! Abundant and free!
What glories shine, what joys are mine,
What wondrous blessings I see!
My past with its sin,
The searching and strife,
Forever gone, there's a bright new dawn!
For in Christ I have found New Life!          (John Peterson)

Blessings,
Mike

Romans 6:19-23
New Living Translation

19 Because of the weakness of your human nature, I am using the illustration of slavery to help you understand all this. Previously, you let yourselves be slaves to impurity and lawlessness, which led ever deeper into sin. Now you must give yourselves to be slaves to righteous living so that you will become holy.

20 When you were slaves to sin, you were free from the obligation to do right. 21 And what was the result? You are now ashamed of the things you used to do, things that end in eternal doom. 22 But now you are free from the power of sin and have become slaves of God. Now you do those things that lead to holiness and result in eternal life. 23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.
