Verse of the Day 1/28

Verse of the Day 1/28

Psalm 71:20-21
English Standard Version

20 You who have made me see many troubles and calamities
    will revive me again;
from the depths of the earth
    you will bring me up again.
21 You will increase my greatness
    and comfort me again.

Today's verses came up in my daily reading in the Psalms.  They were fitting for the day.  As I write this my wife Jean is sitting across from me having her devotions. She has been battling cancer for going on 7 years.  When first diagnaosed she was rated at stage four grade three cancer. We've seen other "calamities and troubles" in our lives but we're in the throws of this one. Two days ago I was worrying about what these next few days would bring. She was very disoriented,( not even capable of reading )and I was wondering if things would turn around this time.

Thankfully, we had a regularly scheduled appointment for a PET scan and visit with the doctor yesterday.  There, we received some encouraging news and some more troubling news. In a nutshell, through our team of doctors; from her GP to her palliative card doctor and her oncologist, it was determined that several things were going on. Some medications were adjusted and other supplements added and she is more like herself once again.

We could see God's hand in the timing of it all and praise God, because we know that we'll both be singing His praises once again for the comfort we have received. Her long term prognosis is still not good, but we've been given a reprieve for now and an opportunity to receive comfort seeing His greatness through it all.

I will sing of the mercies of the Lord forever,
I will sing, I will sing,
I will sing of the mercies of the Lord forever,
I will sing of the mercies of the Lord.
With my mouth will I make known
Thy faithfulness, Thy faithfulness,
With my mouth will I make known
Thy faithfulness to all generations,
I will sing of the mercies of the Lord forever,
I will sing of the mercies of the Lord.

Blessings,
Mike

Psalm 71:19-24
English Standard Version

19 Your righteousness, O God,
    reaches the high heavens.
You who have done great things,
    O God, who is like you?
20 You who have made me see many troubles and calamities
    will revive me again;
from the depths of the earth
    you will bring me up again.
21 You will increase my greatness
    and comfort me again.

22 I will also praise you with the harp
    for your faithfulness, O my God;
I will sing praises to you with the lyre,
    O Holy One of Israel.
23 My lips will shout for joy,
    when I sing praises to you;
    my soul also, which you have redeemed.
24 And my tongue will talk of your righteous help all the day long,
for they have been put to shame and disappointed
    who sought to do me hurt.
