Verse of the Day 1/5
Matthew 3:16-17. New International Version
Matthew 3:16-17. New International Version
16 As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. 17 And a voice from heaven said, "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased."
In yesterday's post we considered the angels declaration of the Jesus birth, "Fear not, for behold i bring you good news of great joy that will be for aall the people, for unto you is born in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord". In today's verses it is God the Father Himself who thunders from heaven with the announcement at Jesus' baptism that "this is my Son, whom I love, with Him I am well pleased.". In these verses we have I believe the first reference to the Trinity. The Spirit descending, God the Father making the announcemnt as Jesus the Son is baptized. From there, Jesus would go on to be tempted by the devil in Matthew 4 whereafter Jesus begins His earthly ministry calling on His disciples, launching into the beatitudes and the sermon on the mount.
I began reading through the Bible some 30 years ago after a Promise Keepers meeting. Each year, reading through these chapters in various translations, is somthing I've always looked forward to. It does not become old, but each time reading through, more is gained that I could imagine.
It is not too late to begin reading through this year. You may choose a straight through the Bible plan, a blended plan or just start out with the New Testament. The important thing is to spend time in His Word each day and let it speak to you, let the Holy Spirit guide you, and may you grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
As you read may you pray that the Lord will bless you and use you for His glory.
Spirit of the Living God,
Fall afresh on me,
Spirit of the Living God,
Fall afresh on me.
Break me, melt me, mold me, fill me.
Spirit of the Living God,
Fall afresh on me.
Fall afresh on me,
Spirit of the Living God,
Fall afresh on me.
Break me, melt me, mold me, fill me.
Spirit of the Living God,
Fall afresh on me.
Blessings,
Mike

The Baptism of Jesus
13 Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John. 14 But John tried to deter him, saying, "I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?"
15 Jesus replied, "Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness." Then John consented.
16 As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. 17 And a voice from heaven said, "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased."
