Verse of the Day 1/30
Psalm 73:25-26English Standard Version
Psalm 73:25-26
English Standard Version
25 Whom have I in heaven but you?
And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides you.26 My flesh and my heart may fail,
but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
The beginning of trhe passage posted below begins with "I was brutish and ignorant, I was like a beast towards you." Can you think of times in your life when you acted towards God that way, like a child throwing a tantrum? But when they need something they know that their parent is there for them. They won't go to their best friend, or brother or sister, only their parents will do. As Christlan adults we too realize that there is ultimately no one besides God that can deliver us, give us strength, give us hope.
We all realize that at some point our hears will fail, we will die, but verse 26 tells us that even then God will be our strenth, here and then into eternity. John Piper writes, "In essence, he says, "In myself I feel very weak and helpless and unable to cope. My body is shot and my heart is almost dead. But whatever the reason for this despondency, I will not yield. I will trust God and not myself. He is my strength and my portion."
We need strength for today and hope for tomorrow. Only God can provide this to us, great is His faithfulness.
Great is Thy faithfulness," O God my Father,
There is no shadow of turning with Thee;
Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not
As Thou hast been Thou forever wilt be.
There is no shadow of turning with Thee;
Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not
As Thou hast been Thou forever wilt be.
"Great is Thy faithfulness!" "Great is Thy faithfulness!"
Morning by morning new mercies I see;
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided—
"Great is Thy faithfulness," Lord, unto me!
Morning by morning new mercies I see;
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided—
"Great is Thy faithfulness," Lord, unto me!

Summer and winter, and springtime and harvest,
Sun, moon and stars in their courses above,
Join with all nature in manifold witness
To Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love.
Sun, moon and stars in their courses above,
Join with all nature in manifold witness
To Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love.

Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth,
Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide;
Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow,
Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!
Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide;
Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow,
Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!
Blessings,
Mike

Psalm 73:22-28English Standard Version
Psalm 73:22-28
English Standard Version
22 I was brutish and ignorant;
I was like a beast toward you.23 Nevertheless, I am continually with you;
you hold my right hand.
24 You guide me with your counsel,
and afterward you will receive me to glory.
25 Whom have I in heaven but you?
And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides you.
26 My flesh and my heart may fail,
but God is the strength[a] of my heart and my portion forever.
27 For behold, those who are far from you shall perish;
you put an end to everyone who is unfaithful to you.
28 But for me it is good to be near God;
I have made the Lord God my refuge,
that I may tell of all your works.
