Verse of the Day - weekend 9/19

Through the Bible - Ecclesiastes 10 - Song of Solomon 3, 2 Corinthians 13 - Galations 1

Good morning,
Today's New Testament reading plan brings us to the end of 2 Corinthians.  In these two letters we've learned a lot about the gospel and what love truly is.  We've learned about being comforted so that we will comfort others and we've learned what it means to give, sacrificially.

For today's verse we'll go to 2 Corinthians 13 where Paul gives a benediction where he challenges them to grow, to encourage, to get along and have God's peace.
.
2 Cor 13:11 Dear brothers and sisters, I close my letter with these last words: Be joyful. Grow to maturity. Encourage each other. Live in harmony and peace. Then the God of love and peace will be with you.
12 Greet each other with Christian love.  NLT
All this is to be centered around Christ, "tied" to the gospel, and to spreading the gospel.  Another old hym comes to mind.
Blest Be The Tie That Binds

Blest be the tie that binds
Our hearts in Christian love;
The fellowship of kindred minds
Is like that to that above.

Before our Father's throne
We pour our ardent prayers;
Our fears, our hopes, our aims are one
Our comforts and our cares.

We share each other's woes,
Our mutual burdens bear;
And often for each other flows
The sympathizing tear.

When we asunder part,
It gives us inward pain;
But we shall still be joined in heart,
And hope to meet again.

This glorious hope revives
Our courage by the way;
While each in expectation lives,
And longs to see the day.

From sorrow, toil and pain,
And sin, we shall be free,
And perfect love and friendship reign
Through all eternity.

I'll close with a few words from William Dyer.  Consider them as preparation for worship this weekend.

Now, beloved, let . . .
  your hearts be upright,
  your judgments sound,
  and your lives holy!

Love the truth, and
obey the truth, and
hold fast the truth!

Keep yourselves . . .
  from false teachers,
  from false doctrines,
  from false worship,
  from false opinions!

In Christ,
Mike

Greetings and Benediction

11 Finally, brethren, farewell. Become complete. Be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you.

12 Greet one another with a holy kiss.

13 All the saints greet you.

14 The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Amen.    NKJV
