Verse of the Day 916

James 3:16-17  For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice. But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere. English Standard Version

If you've been watching the news lately, especially the political campaigns, you've probably seen some places where jealousy and selfish ambition exist.  You may here boasts of personal experience as the basis of wisdom by some while out of the same mouths come disparaging remarks about others.  The sad thing is, that this type of demonstration is not limited to the political realm.  We see it on display in company hierarchies, public organizations and perhaps saddest of all within families and churches.

Verse 18 quickly brings attention to the wisdom that we should be looking for in ourselves and help to cultivate in others.  Our families, churches, businesses and the government if the motives, speech and intention of those in leadership displayed wisdom that is pure, peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good works while being impartial and sincere.

There will be a debate tonight among political candidates, one of several over the coming months.  Something to watch for is what qualities mentioned in these verses will we see coming from the candidates?  Will we see jealousy, selfish ambition, disorder and even detestable practices and statements or will we see and here pure, peaceable, gentle, merciful, sincere and impartial words and actions?

What about us?  If we are looking for those qualities in political candidates shouldn't we be looking inside for them?  We all have the potential to be either type of candidate.  The next time we get into a "spirited debate" at home, work or church which "candidate" will be on display?

Blessings,
Mike

Wisdom from Above  James 3:13-18 ESV
Who is wise and understanding among you? By his good conduct let him show his works in the meekness of wisdom. But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast and be false to the truth. This is not the wisdom that comes down from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice. But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere. And a harvest of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.
