Verse of the Day 9/2

Isaiah 54:10

Though the mountains move
and the hills shake,
My love will not be removed from you
and My covenant of peace will not be shaken,"
says your compassionate Lord. Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

As Christians we can possess the faith to move mountains, while that is true there are often times where we make mountains out of the circumstances in our lives to appear to us like Mount Everest, but we are called to have faith, to trust and not be shaken.  Mountains in nature and sky scraper in modern society appear to be immoveable objects.  But if you've ever been in an earthquake or perhaps seen one being filmed, you realize that rocks and concrete can sway and flex.

Today's verse is an encouragement for us, that even in those times when we, our world is shaken to the core, God's rule, His covenant with His people and His ultimate peace cannot be shaken.  In an increasingly unstable world with the threats of war, prophecies of the end times and trials and tribulations at hand, we can still take this verse, these words to heart that "His covenant of peace will not be shaken", signed, if you will "your compassionate Lord".  Those last words bring to mind Ecclesiasties 3:22, literally in the middle of a book of lament, comes one of the greatest verses of encouragement of all time.  It is the root of the hymn Great is Thy Faithfulness.

Lamentations 3:22-23English Standard Version (ESV)

22 The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;[a]
    his mercies never come to an end;
23 they are new every morning;
    great is your faithfulness.
These steadfast promises are for those who believe.  Read the words from the Steve Green song "We  Believe".
Though the mountains are cast down to the plane, when kingdoms all crumble, this one remains, our faith is not subject to seasons of men, with our fathers we proclaim,
we believe our Lord will come as He says, the land and the sea will give up their dead, His children will reign with Him as their head, we believe, we believe.

Blessings,
 Mike

Isaiah 54:7-10The Message (MSG)

7-8 Your Redeemer God says:
"I left you, but only for a moment.
    Now, with enormous compassion, I'm bringing you back.
In an outburst of anger I turned my back on you—
    but only for a moment.
It's with lasting love
    that I'm tenderly caring for you.
9-10
"This exile is just like the days of Noah for me:
    I promised then that the waters of Noah
    would never again flood the earth.
I'm promising now no more anger,
    no more dressing you down.
For even if the mountains walk away
    and the hills fall to pieces,
My love won't walk away from you,
    my covenant commitment of peace won't fall apart."
    The God who has compassion on you says so.
