Verse of the Day 11/2

Proverbs 15:28   The heart of the righteous ponders how to answer,
    but the mouth of the wicked pours out evil things.   English Standard Version (ESV)

When you spend time in God's Word every day you may be amazed at how  day after day something that you read is applicable to your life and the world around you.  It may be especially true in this  political season.  Today's verse deals with how we are to answer questions and gives us some comparisons between  how  someone  who is in right  standing before God will answer compared  to  the "wicked" or as The Message describes "a greedy and grasping  person."

You won't  have to look to far to find a "greedy and grasping person",  someone  hungry for power and willing to do or say just about anything to obtain it.  Notice  also  what verse 27 from  The Message says about what they end up doing  to those around them, whether it  be family, community or even the nation, they "destroy community" and  exploit others as their mouths pour out evil things.  Once again, while it easy to see these things in politicians and others we should also hold  ourselves up to our speech, our answers to make sure that we are different.

In my daily reading  in the  Psalms I read the  following  verses that relate to what we're considering.  We aren't to be double minded, living according to the  world and  God's Word at the same time, it can't be done.  We are to love His Word and  live according  to it, and  find our hope in it.  In doing so, we  will find our answers to life's questions.

Psalm 119:113-114

113 I hate the double-minded,
    but I love your law.
114 You are my hiding place and my shield;
    I hope in your word.

Friend  and author Joseph Williams writes, "I find great comfort in the fact that God intervenes supernaturally in the lives of His people throughout the ages. And you know what is even more exciting? He still does this every day in the lives of believers because we have God living within us through His Holy Spirit.

Just as angels convey messages and bring protection at God's bidding, so the Holy Spirit guides us into making wise choices and avoiding evil. The catch is that the still small voice of His Spirit (1 Kings 19:9-18) is awfully hard to hear when we're walking in sin and not pursuing Him with all our might."

Spend time in God's Word, be listening to that  still small voice to find the answers and  make wise choices in your life.

Blessings,

Mike

Proverbs 15:27-29The Message (MSG)
27 A greedy and grasping person destroys community;
    those who refuse to exploit live and let live.
28 Prayerful answers come from God-loyal people;
    the wicked are sewers of abuse.
29 God keeps his distance from the wicked;
    he closely attends to the prayers of God-loyal people.
