Verse of the Dayy 11/4

Psalm 150:1-2 Praise the Lord!
Praise God in his sanctuary;
    praise him in his mighty heavens!
2 Praise him for his mighty deeds;
    praise him according to his excellent greatness! English Standard Version (ESV)

Yesterday we considered how we are to "sing God's praises" for what He has done for us. Today's verses continue that theme. As I read through the psalm I realized that it gives us the who, where, and what for of worship. If you dig a little further you'll find even more. We are to praise Him in song and with "trumpets, lutes and harps". No mention of organ music but I think you get the picture, all types of instruments are covered. It is praise music, I can't remember hearing "soft" trumpets, cymbals or clanging gongs being used in music, whether loud or soft it is praise to God.

David Jeremiah writes that "in only 6 verses, this psalm answers one question after another involving praise and worship. In fact, the word "praise" occurs 13 times in Psalm 150. The first verse tells us what we are to do. We're to "Praise the Lord". Worship begins with praise, if we're not praising, can we truly be worshipping?

Did you praise the Lord yesterday, have you done so today? You're alive aren't you? Verse 6 tells us "let everything that has breath Praise the Lord".

We'll close by turning to and perhaps singing the old Fanny Crosby hymn, "Praise Him, Praise Him". May this type of praise be what we sing every day, "ever in joyful song".

  1. Praise Him! Praise Him! Jesus, our blessed Redeemer!
    Sing, O Earth, His wonderful love proclaim!
    Hail Him! Hail Him! Highest archangels in glory;
    Strength and honor give to His holy Name!
    Like a shepherd, Jesus will guard His children,
    In His arms He carries them all day long.
    • Refrain:
      Praise Him! Praise Him! Tell of His excellent greatness;
      Praise Him! Praise Him! Ever in joyful song!
  2. Praise Him! Praise Him! Jesus, our blessed Redeemer!
    For our sins He suffered, and bled, and died.
    He our Rock, our hope of eternal salvation,
    Hail Him! Hail Him! Jesus the Crucified.
    Sound His praises! Jesus who bore our sorrows,
    Love unbounded, wonderful, deep and strong.

Blessings,
Mike
Psalm 150The Message (MSG)
150 1-6 Hallelujah!
Praise God in his holy house of worship,
    praise him under the open skies;
Praise him for his acts of power,
    praise him for his magnificent greatness;
Praise with a blast on the trumpet,
    praise by strumming soft strings;
Praise him with castanets and dance,
    praise him with banjo and flute;
Praise him with cymbals and a big bass drum,
    praise him with fiddles and mandolin.
Let every living, breathing creature praise God!
    Hallelujah!
