Verse of the Day 11/3

Psalm 146:1-2    Praise the Lord!
Praise the Lord, O my soul!
I will praise the Lord as long as I live;
I will sing praises to my God while I have my being.   English Standard Version (ESV)

I am a Cubs fan and have been for life and last night they won the World Series, bringing home  a  championship to the city of Chicago.   There will be many people across the city and across the country who  will be singing their praises, and justifiably so after a drought of 108 years.   It was a great season and they have (in my opinion) a great team and are worthy of many of the accolades.

It serves as a reminder  to us as Christians that we have One who is worthy of our praise every day of our lives.  The God who created the heavens and the earth and gave us and  sustains our lives day by day and through the sacrifice of His only begotten Son, Jesus, has given us the opportunity to live and praise Him eternally.  While we wait for that future day we have the Holy Spirit to guide and direct us, to give us all  that we need for the day and for the future.  Now that is truly worthy of our praise, not  in celebration that may last for few hours, days or  weeks, but for the rest of our life.

The other question it raises is how often do we praise the Lord?  Is it relegated to Sunday at church?  It should be part of  our lives, private and public, as we "put on Christ" and  live lives for Him in all  circumstances.

"Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you."  1 Thessalonians 5:18 (ESV)

Psalm 107:21-22

21 Let them thank the Lord for his steadfast love,
for his wondrous works to the children of man!
22 And let them offer sacrifices of thanksgiving,
and tell of his deeds in songs of joy!  (ESV)

If you are a Cubs fan, go  ahead and  sing  their  praises today, but don't forget to sing praises day by day to the King of  Kings and  Lord of  Lords, for His steadfast love and  all of His wondrous works.

Blessings,

Mike

Psalm 146The Message (MSG)
146 1-2 Hallelujah!
    O my soul, praise God!
All my life long I'll praise God,
singing songs to my God as long as I live.
3-9 Don't put your life in the hands of experts
who know nothing of life, of salvation life.
Mere humans don't have what it takes;
when they die, their projects die with them.
Instead, get help from the God of Jacob,
put your hope in God and know real blessing!
God made sky and soil,
sea and all the fish in it.
He always does what he says—
    he defends the wronged,
    he feeds the hungry.
God frees prisoners—
he gives sight to the blind,
    he lifts up the fallen.
God loves good people, protects strangers,
takes the side of orphans and widows,
but makes short work of the wicked.
10 God's in charge—always.
Zion's God is God for good!
    Hallelujah!
