Verse of the Day 3/4

Verse of the Day 3/4

1 Thessalonians 5:23-24. English Standard Version

23 Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 24 He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it.

I read today's verses in a devotional this morning and several words jumped out at me.  Paul begins by telling us that the "God of peace" will work in us.  He is not a God of conflict, but is there to bring us peace even in our conflicts, trials and struggles.  The sanctification process that goes on for all of our lives is one of His shaping us, setting us apart to do His work.

Paul speaks of our whole spirit and soul and body.  He does a complete work in us.  He is the author and finisher of our faith and He will see the process through.  He will complete it.  Several other verses come to mind with these thoughts, among them are:

Philippians 1:6. English Standard Version  And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.

Romans 8:29-30. New Living Translation. "For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son, so that his Son would be the firstborn[a] among many brothers and sisters. 30 And having chosen them, he called them to come to him. And having called them, he gave them right standing with himself. And having given them right standing, he gave them his glory."

We may feel like we're not getting there.  But hold on, seek Him because the One, the God of peace,  who started the work will be faithful to complete it.  That is the process of being sanctified.  He will keep us "to the hour of our receiving", meanwhile:

1 Praise the Savior, ye who know Him!
Who can tell how much we owe Him?
Gladly let us render to Him
all we are and have.

2 Jesus is the name that charms us;
He for conflict fits and arms us;
nothing moves and nothing harms us
while we trust in Him.

3 Trust in Him, ye saints, forever;
He is faithful, changing never;
neither force nor guile can sever
those He loves from Him.

4 Keep us, Lord, O keep us cleaving
to Thyself and still believing,
till the hour of our receiving
promised joys with Thee.

5 Then we shall be where we would be,
then we shall be what we should be;
things that are not now, nor could be,
soon shall be our own.

Blessings,
Mike

1 Thessalonians 5:16-24
English Standard Version

16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. 19 Do not quench the Spirit. 20 Do not despise prophecies, 21 but test everything; hold fast what is good. 22 Abstain from every form of evil.

23 Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 24 He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it.
