Verse of the Day 4/13
Psalm 20:7-8New International Version
Psalm 20:7-8
New International Version
7 Some trust in chariots and some in horses,
but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.8 They are brought to their knees and fall,
but we rise up and stand firm.
People today put their trust in many things, for some it is themselves; others it is 401K's, pensions and bank accounts; for others it in possessions such as the cars or trucks they drive. The 4 x 4 truck, so popular today, is much like the chariots of Davids day. They were an indicator of strength, power and security for a king. But unlike today's 4 x 4's they weren't much good in mud, muck and mire. They would get bogged down and stuck and be an easy target for the enemy.
David Jeremiah writes, "Regardless of the level of fear and danger we feel, our ultimate help comes from the Lord, not from horses, chariots, or the Philistines. Perhaps the Lord will use others to help us; but we must always keep our eyes focused on Him. Jesus said, "Have faith in God" (Mark 11:22). The Bible assures us, "Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame" (Romans 10:11). "
We are to put our trust in God, as today's verses say "in the name of the Lord". The "name" of the Lord refers to His character, reputation and nature. We trust in what He has done in the past and depend on Him for the future, His unchanging nature and character. He won't get bogged down in the muck but will see us through.
Blessings,
Mike

Psalm 20:4-9New International Version
Psalm 20:4-9
New International Version
4 May he give you the desire of your heart
and make all your plans succeed.5 May we shout for joy over your victory
and lift up our banners in the name of our God.
May the Lord grant all your requests.
6 Now this I know:
The Lord gives victory to his anointed.
He answers him from his heavenly sanctuary
with the victorious power of his right hand.
7 Some trust in chariots and some in horses,
but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.
8 They are brought to their knees and fall,
but we rise up and stand firm.
9 Lord, give victory to the king!
Answer us when we call!
