Verse of the Day 9/1

Verse of the Day 9/1

Proverbs 22:6
New International Version

Start children off on the way they should go,
    and even when they are old they will not turn from it.

Today's verse was the Verse of the Day from Bible Gateway.  It was fitting for me today because it reminded me of a hike that my wife Jean and I took with our grandchildren Ava and Jack at Sourland Mountain Preserve in New Jersey.  Ava and Jack had been to it previously with their parents and were anxious to go on the hike with us.  Jack, who is 7 led the way.  There were several trail options available and at points they would intersect.  For our trail there would be an orange square painted on the trees every so many feet to show you which way to go.

Jack wanted to make sure that I had the map on my phone, just in case we strayed, but we never needed to reference it.  He never strayed from the path.  He led us all the way explaining things as we walked along.  We also had the time to answer some questions about nature, creation by God and the "theory" of evolution..

It is a good lesson for us as we teach our children and grandchildren about life, life in the Spirit, life in Christ.  We need to be taking time, making the most of our opportunities to point them in the right direction, teach them to see and to know the right markers, the right path in life.  It starts with a belief and faith in God and seeking Him all the days of our lives.

As we teach, as we share, as we read God's Word, the opportunities will arise along our paths in life.

1 All the way my Savior leads me–
What have I to ask beside?
Can I doubt His tender mercy,
Who through life has been my guide?
Heav'nly peace, divinest comfort,
Here by faith in Him to dwell!
For I know, whate'er befall me,
Jesus doeth all things well;
For I know, whate'er befall me,
Jesus doeth all things well.

2 All the way my Savior leads me–
Cheers each winding path I tread,
Gives me grace for ev'ry trial,
Feeds me with the living bread.
Though my weary steps may falter
And my soul athirst may be,
Gushing from the rock before me,
Lo! a spring of joy I see;
Gushing from the rock before me,
Lo! A spring of joy I see.

Blessings,
Mike

Proverbs 22:1-6
New International Version

22 A good name is more desirable than great riches;
    to be esteemed is better than silver or gold.

Rich and poor have this in common:
    The Lord is the Maker of them all.

The prudent see danger and take refuge,
    but the simple keep going and pay the penalty.

Humility is the fear of the Lord;
    its wages are riches and honor and life.

In the paths of the wicked are snares and pitfalls,
    but those who would preserve their life stay far from them.

Start children off on the way they should go,
    and even when they are old they will not turn from it.
