Verse of the Day 9/3

Verse of the Day 9/3

Isaiah 48:17
New International Version

17 This is what the Lord says—
    your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel:
"I am the Lord your God,
    who teaches you what is best for you,
    who directs you in the way you should go.

Today's verse came up as the Verse of the Day from Bible Gateway and I thought that I'd share it with you.  Spending time in God's Word helps us to be reminded of who God is; what He has done for us; and how He directs the course of our lives and our hearts day by day.  It is another verse that should cause us to stop and consider, God is declaring that He alone is God the Holy ONE; the only true God.  He is our Redeemer, we have been purchased with a price in order that He would teach us what is best for us and direct our steps as we follow Him.

I am so thankful of God's Word and also the old hymns which put the thoughts of His Word to music and I learned from childhood but still come to mind today as I read and consider the Word.  As I read today's verse the following hymn came to mind.

1 I will sing of my Redeemer
and his wondrous love to me;
on the cruel cross he suffered,
from the curse to set me free.
Sing, O sing of my Redeemer!
With his blood he purchased me;
on the cross he sealed my pardon,
paid the debt, and made me free.

2 I will tell the wondrous story,
how my lost estate to save,
in his boundless love and mercy,
he the ransom freely gave.
I will praise my dear Redeemer,
his triumphant power I'll tell:
how the victory he gives me
over sin and death and hell.

3 I will sing of my Redeemer
and his heavenly love for me;
he from death to life has brought me,
Son of God, with him to be.
Sing, O sing of my Redeemer!
With his blood he purchased me;
on the cross he sealed my pardon,
paid the debt, and made me free.

As you read, think of some of the key words that we read.  Recall some of the hymns that mention them and sing them out aloud or in your mind as songs of praise. Doing so shows that we are paying attention to what He has said to us.

Blessings,
Mike

Isaiah 48:16-18
New International Version

16 "Come near me and listen to this:

"From the first announcement I have not spoken in secret;
    at the time it happens, I am there."

And now the Sovereign Lord has sent me,
    endowed with his Spirit.

17 This is what the Lord says—
    your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel:
"I am the Lord your God,
    who teaches you what is best for you,
    who directs you in the way you should go.
18 If only you had paid attention to my commands,
    your peace would have been like a river,
    your well-being like the waves of the sea.
