Verse of the Day 12/4

Through the Bible - Daniel 5-6, 2 John

Good morning,
This morning's Bible reading above from the Old and New Testament fit together well.
In 2 John, the apostle is encouraging his readers to have the grace, mercy that come from liiving in the truth of God's Word.
 2 John 3 Grace, mercy, and peace, which come from God the Father and from Jesus Christ—the Son of the Father—will continue to be with us who live in truth and love.  NLT
The Old Testament reading was from Daniel chapter 6 which told of Daniel's stand for God in front of King Darius.  The king in following his advisor's suggustions had issued a decree that prayers and petitions were not to be made to any god or man for thirty days, except to king Darius.
It was a trap for Daniel.  He continued to pray as he normally did and the advisors had him arrested.  Daniel wouldn't back down and ended up being thrown in the lions den.  You know the rest of the story.  Daniel took yet another stand for God , was delivered from the trial and was blessed for it.
He was a living example, a testimony of the grace, mercy and peace that God offers to those who continue to live in God's truth and love.
Daniel's stand had an impact on the king.  Read King Darius' response to Daniel's stand;
Dan 6:26-28
26 "I decree that everyone throughout my kingdom should tremble with fear before the God of Daniel.
For he is the living God,
and he will endure forever.
His kingdom will never be destroyed,
and his rule will never end.
27 He rescues and saves his people;
he performs miraculous signs and wonders
in the heavens and on earth.
He has rescued Daniel
from the power of the lions."  NLT

Daniel was able to stand on the promises of God.  May you be able to stand to any trials that you may face today in the grace, mercy and peace that come from God the Father, and from Jesus Christ, through the power of the Spirit.  Read the words from the old hymn:

Standing on the Promises of God

Standing on the promises of Christ my King,
through eternal ages let his praises ring;
glory in the highest, I will shout and sing,
standing on the promises of God.
Refrain:
Standing, standing,
standing on the promises of Christ my Savior;
standing, standing,
I'm standing on the promises of God.
Standing on the promises that cannot fail,
when the howling storms of doubt and fear assail,
by the living Word of God I shall prevail,
standing on the promises of God.

Standing on the promises of Christ the Lord,
bound to him eternally by love's strong cord,
overcoming daily with the Spirit's sword,
standing on the promises of God.

Standing on the promises I cannot fall,
listening every moment to the Spirit's call,
resting in my Savior as my all in all,
standing on the promises of God.

Standing ,standing,

Safe and secure from all alarms,

Standing, standing,

I'm standing on the promises of God.

Blessings,
Mike

2 John 1-4
1 This letter is from John, the elder.
I am writing to the chosen lady and to her children, whom I love in the truth—as does everyone else who knows the truth— 2 because the truth lives in us and will be with us forever.
3 Grace, mercy, and peace, which come from God the Father and from Jesus Christ—the Son of the Father—will continue to be with us who live in truth and love.  NLT
