Verse of the Day 4/4

Ecclesiastes 3:1-2 For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven:

a time to be born, and a time to die;
a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted;  English Standard Version (ESV)

Our Pastor Bob recently concluded a series about the "meantime", the in-between times in our lives.  Today celebrates one of the greatest in between times in history.  The day between Jesus crucifixion and His resurrection on Easter Sunday.  It is hard to imagine what it must have been like back then.  The disciples have retreated, the Jewish leaders think that things have gone back to normal.  Their Sabbath probably had a sense of relief, the distraction of Jesus done with, they can get back to the way things were supposed to be in their minds.

As we get older the past seems to fly by faster and faster but the future still comes at the same pace.  It may seem longer while we wait for something, but we can't rush it, but lets dwell in it thinking about what it must have felt like on that great in between day.   C. S. Lewis said, "The future is something which everyone reaches at the rate of 60 minutes an hour, whatever he does, whoever he is."  For us, we know the future in the Easter celebration, but today should be one of reflection.  It is a day like any other, 24 hours with 60 minutes per hour and sixty seconds per minute.  Let's use it to honor God and prepare our hearts and minds for the celebration tomorrow.

1 Corinthians 15:3-4 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures,  English Standard Version (ESV)

Ponder these thoughts from Paul, what they meant to us last night, what they mean to us today and what they will mean tomorrow and for eternity.

A Time for Everything

For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven:

a time to be born, and a time to die;
a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted;
a time to kill, and a time to heal;
a time to break down, and a time to build up;
a time to weep, and a time to laugh;
a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together;
a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
a time to seek, and a time to lose;
a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
a time to tear, and a time to sew;
a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
a time to love, and a time to hate;
a time for war, and a time for peace.
