Verse of the Day 10/11

Verse of the Day 10/11

1 Corinthians 1:23-24  but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles, 24 but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.  English Standard Version (ESV)

Reading today's verses this morning I was reminded of the movie "The Case For Christ" which my wife Jean and I watched recently.  It was the story of author and Pastor Lee Stroebel who was an atheist who had set out to disprove the accounts of Jesus in the New Testament but in the process of doing so was confronted with the "facts" and ended up becoming a believer and then a pastor, proclaiming the gospel.

The same gospel message that had been a stumbling block to him as an atheist became the "starting block" in running the race of for Christ.  So it is with everyone who questions the gospel but then at some point becomes convicted and convinced by it.

As I began formulating today's post I was also reminded of the contemporary Christian song "The Gospel".

It's the cure for our condition
It's the good news for us all
It's greater than religion
It's the power of the Cross

To the captive, it looks like freedom
To the orphan, it feels like home
To the skeptic, it might sound crazy
To believe in a God who loves

In a world, where our hearts are breaking
And we're lost in the mess we've made
Like a blinding light, in the dead of night
It's the Gospel The Gospel that makes a way
It's the Gospel that makes a way.  (The Gospel - Ryan STEVENSON)

In his devotional today, John Piper writes, "Hell is one way to settle accounts with sinners and uphold his justice. But there is another way. God provided another way. This is the gospel……The wisdom of God has ordained a way for the love of God to deliver us from the wrath of God without compromising the justice of God. There it is. The gospel. Let me say it again slowly: The wisdom of God has ordained a way for the love of God to deliver us from the wrath of God without compromising the justice of God. "

Has this gospel message been the guiding, blinding light in the dead of night for you?  If not, stop stumbling in the dark, seek the Lord, the gospel is starting block to the way.

Blessings,
Mike

1 Corinthians 1:23-25The Message (MSG)

22-25 While Jews clamor for miraculous demonstrations and Greeks go in for philosophical wisdom, we go right on proclaiming Christ, the Crucified. Jews treat this like an anti-miracle—and Greeks pass it off as absurd. But to us who are personally called by God himself—both Jews and Greeks—Christ is God's ultimate miracle and wisdom all wrapped up in one. Human wisdom is so tinny, so impotent, next to the seeming absurdity of God. Human strength can't begin to compete with God's "weakness."
