Verse of the Day 4/12

Verse of the Day 4/12

Romans 10:8   But what does it say? "The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart" (that is, the word of faith that we proclaim);    English Standard Version (ESV)

We have considered over the past few days how we are to think about good things, meditate on God's Word, treasure it in our hearts, have reminders of it around us.  These things are acts of faith and following in faith will help us to realize as Paul said in today's verse the "word is near you", it is in your heart and it will come out in your words, you will testify of Him, they are the words of faith that we proclaim.

Jesus brought us salvation through His death and resurrection.  We treasure the words that tell of it, we hold onto the faith that professes it, and won't let it go.

John Piper writes, " The resurrection of Jesus is God's declaration to Israel and to the world that we cannot work our way to glory but that he intends to do the impossible to get us there.  The resurrection is the promise of God that all who trust Jesus will be the beneficiaries of God's power to lead us in paths of righteousness and through the valley of death.  Therefore, believing in your heart that God raised Jesus from the dead is much more than accepting a fact. It means being confident that God is for you, that he has closed ranks with you, that he is transforming your life, and that he will save you for eternal joy."

For us, these words, the Bible that tell us of God's love and His gift to us are words of life, for the here and now and for eternity and we won't tire of hearing them or passing them along.

  1. Sing them over again to me,
    Wonderful words of life,
    Let me more of their beauty see,
    Wonderful words of life;
    Words of life and beauty
    Teach me faith and duty.
    • Refrain:
      Beautiful words, wonderful words,
      Wonderful words of life;
      Beautiful words, wonderful words,
      Wonderful words of life.
  2. Sweetly echo the Gospel call,
    Wonderful words of life;
    Offer pardon and peace to all,
    Wonderful words of life;
    Jesus, only Savior,
    Sanctify us forever.
  3. John 6:63   It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is no help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life.    English Standard Version (ESV)

Romans 10:8-13 The Message (MSG)

The word that saves is right here,
    as near as the tongue in your mouth,
    as close as the heart in your chest.

It's the word of faith that welcomes God to go to work and set things right for us. This is the core of our preaching. Say the welcoming word to God—"Jesus is my Master"—embracing, body and soul, God's work of doing in us what he did in raising Jesus from the dead. That's it. You're not "doing" anything; you're simply calling out to God, trusting him to do it for you. That's salvation. With your whole being you embrace God setting things right, and then you say it, right out loud: "God has set everything right between him and me!"

11-13 Scripture reassures us, "No one who trusts God like this—heart and soul—will ever regret it." It's exactly the same no matter what a person's religious background may be: the same God for all of us, acting the same incredibly generous way to everyone who calls out for help. "Everyone who calls, 'Help, God!' gets help."
