Verse of the Day 1/17

Verse of the Day 1/17

Matthew 11:28-29  "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.   New International Version (NIV)

Today's verses came up in the read through the New Testament plan that I'm following.  Stepping back and looking at the current situation here in the U.S. and across the world; people all over the world are weary from battling and dealing with the corona virus pandemic. The question is, where or what are they turning to find peace, comfort, rest, hope and relief from the situation?

Jesus called for the people then and now and through the ages to turn to Him, to find rest, to find shelter to find hope.  Charles Spurgeon writes, "this is not only Christ's cry to you, but, if you be a believer, this is your cry to Christ--"Come! come!" You will be longing for his second advent; you will be saying, "Come quickly, even so come Lord Jesus." You will be panting for nearer and closer communion with him. As his voice to you is "Come," your response to him will be, "Come, Lord, and abide with me. Come, and occupy alone the throne of my heart; reign there without a rival, and consecrate me entirely to thy service."

For those of us who have put our faith and trust in Christ, we look for, very likely long for His return, and deliverance from the current situation or any future trials that come up in our lives, until He comes again.

A few more verses for us to consider for today come from the book of Revelation.

Revelation 21:4-5   He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever."

And the one sitting on the throne said, "Look, I am making everything new!" And then he said to me, "Write this down, for what I tell you is trustworthy and true." New Living Translation (NLT)

Fast forwarding to the last verses of the New Testament, those who come to Him as He calls and follow Him will have this attitude.

Revelation 22:20-21   He who testifies to these things says, "Yes, I am coming soon."

Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.

21 The grace of the Lord Jesus be with God's people. Amen.   New International Version (NIV)

Matthew 11:25-30 New King James Version (NKJV)

Jesus Gives True Rest

25 At that time Jesus answered and said, "I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and have revealed them to babes. 26 Even so, Father, for so it seemed good in Your sight. 27 All things have been delivered to Me by My Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father. Nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and the one to whom the Son wills to reveal Him. 28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am [a]gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light."
