Verse of the Day 6/1

Verse of the Day 6/1

Isaiah 40:30-31
English Standard Version

30 Even youths shall faint and be weary,
    and young men shall fall exhausted;
31 but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength;
    they shall mount up with wings like eagles;
they shall run and not be weary;
    they shall walk and not faint.

The loss of a loved one; sudden or prolonged illness; job loss and many other circumstances can send us into a downward spiral, emotionally; spiritually; or even physically. Left to our own devices, we don't have the "wings" to lift us above the circumstances and pull us out of the valley.

These verses remind me of a scene, once again from hunting in the mountains of Colorado years ago.  It was a sunny afternoon and I was sitting on a mountainside with a view of the valley below. Out of the corner of my eye I spotted an eagle, far below in the valley.  He spread his wings and without flapping he began to glide in circles, catching the updrafts from the valley.  Gradually, he gained altitude until finally he was far above the mountain and became a small speck in the sky.  From his vantage point, the things of earth much have appeared very small.

It is a picture of what can happen when we place our faith and trust in the Lord, who "renews our strength".  He helps us to get up, He picks us up and lifts us "on wings like eagles".  Those things of earth, those troubles, can grow strangely dim, in the light of His glory and grace.

O soul are you weary and troubled
No light in the darkness you see
There's light for a look at the Savior
And life more abundant and free
Through death into life everlasting
He passed, and we follow Him there
Over us sin no more hath dominion
For more than conquerors we are
Turn your eyes upon Jesus
Look full in His wonderful face
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of His glory and grace

Blessings,
Mike

Isaiah 40:28-31
English Standard Version

28 Have you not known? Have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
    the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He does not faint or grow weary;
    his understanding is unsearchable.
29 He gives power to the faint,
    and to him who has no might he increases strength.
30 Even youths shall faint and be weary,
    and young men shall fall exhausted;
31 but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength;
    they shall mount up with wings like eagles;
they shall run and not be weary;
    they shall walk and not faint.
