Verse of the Day 6/14

Verse of the Day 6/14

Luke 5:1   One day as Jesus was preaching on the shore of the Sea of Galilee, great crowds pressed in on him to listen to the word of God.  New Living Translation

Our Pastor Bob referenced today's verse in his sermon yesterday and as I read it in the New Living Translation what caught my attention was how "great crowds pressed in on him to listen to the word of God."  The religious leaders of the time had been preaching and teaching from the Old Testament which pointed to the coming Messiah whom Jesus was in the flesh.  Their teaching had lost focus and when the true Word of God was spoken, it drew crowds to hear it.  People pressed in because He had things to say that they needed to hear, mercy and healing, grace and forgiveness and more.

With COVID 19 restrictions now being lifted, people now are able to attend the worship services in their churches and we would anticipate "great crowds" pressing in to hear the Word spoken.  Are we seeing this?  When God's Word is spoken there are no restrictions.  Jesus says "come to me" and He still does whenever His words are spoken.  The question is how many are truly interested in hearing from His Word.

Pray for our nation, pray for our world that they would again "press in" to listen to the Word of God and be transformed.

I'm finding myself at a loss for words
And the funny thing is it's okay
The last thing I need is to be heard
But to hear what You would say
Word of God speak
Would You pour down like rain
Washing my eyes to see
Your majesty
To be still and know
That You're in this place
Please let me stay and rest
In Your holiness

Luke 5:1-8
New King James Version

So it was, as the multitude pressed about Him to hear the word of God, that He stood by the Lake of Gennesaret, and saw two boats standing by the lake; but the fishermen had gone from them and were washing their nets. Then He got into one of the boats, which was Simon's, and asked him to put out a little from the land. And He sat down and taught the multitudes from the boat.

When He had stopped speaking, He said to Simon, "Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch."

But Simon answered and said to Him, "Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net." And when they had done this, they caught a great number of fish, and their net was breaking. So they signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink. When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, "Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord!"
