Verse of the Day 2/1

Verse of the Day 2/1

Psalm 19:7-8
English Standard Version

The law of the Lord is perfect,reviving the soul;
the testimony of the Lord is sure,
    making wise the simple;
the precepts of the Lord are right,
    rejoicing the heart;
the commandment of the Lord is pure,
    enlightening the eyes;

The other day we considered the word "abide" as it appeared in John 15.  10 times in that short passage the word came up. If we are "constantly abiding", as the hymn stated, it means that God and HIs Word must occupy our thoughts   This happens through prayer and reading His word, but doesn't end their.  His Word, in verse and in songs should be in our thoughts during our days.

David Jeremiah writes, "surveys tell us that most of us do our best thinking while we're showering, driving, or exercising.1 For Christians, those simple pauses in the day are great opportunities to practice the art of meditation. When the Bible is inscribed in our minds, it's waterproof, so we can take it into the shower or bath. We can wash our souls and be doubly refreshed for the day. It's portable; as we drive to work or school or jog or exercise, we can use the time to meditate on God's Word and let beloved Scriptures sink into our thoughts."

What occupies your thoughts during those times when we are showering, driving, exercising or just relaxing?  Considers spending more time thinking aboiut His Word;' His life; His actions.  They just may revive your soul; give you wisdom in other areas of your life; bring joy to your heart and lift your spirit to the point of singing out one of those old hymns in praise.  If one doesn't come to mind, here's one for you.

  1. When upon life's billows you are tempest-tossed,
    When you are discouraged, thinking all is lost,
    Count your many blessings, name them one by one,
    And it will surprise you what the Lord has done.
    • Refrain:
      Count your blessings, name them one by one,
      Count your blessings, see what God has done!
      Count your blessings, name them one by one,
      *Count your many blessings, see what God has done.
      [*And it will surprise you what the Lord has done.]
  2. Are you ever burdened with a load of care?
    Does the cross seem heavy you are called to bear?
    Count your many blessings, every doubt will fly,
    And you will keep singing as the days go by.
  3. When you look at others with their lands and gold,
    Think that Christ has promised you His wealth untold;
    Count your many blessings—*money cannot buy [*wealth can never buy]
    Your reward in heaven, nor your home on high.
  4. So, amid the conflict whether great or small,
    Do not be discouraged, God is over all;
    Count your many blessings, angels will attend,
    Help and comfort give you to your journey's end.

Psalm 19:7-14
English Standard Version

The law of the Lord is perfect,[a]
    reviving the soul;
the testimony of the Lord is sure,
    making wise the simple;
the precepts of the Lord are right,
    rejoicing the heart;
the commandment of the Lord is pure,
    enlightening the eyes;
the fear of the Lord is clean,
    enduring forever;
the rules[b]

 of the Lord are true,

    and righteous altogether.
10 More to be desired are they than gold,
    even much fine gold;
sweeter also than honey
    and drippings of the honeycomb.
11 Moreover, by them is your servant warned;
    in keeping them there is great reward.

12 Who can discern his errors?
    Declare me innocent from hidden faults.
13 Keep back your servant also from presumptuous sins;
    let them not have dominion over me!
Then I shall be blameless,
    and innocent of great transgression.

14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart
    be acceptable in your sight,
    Lord, my rock and my redeemer.
