Verse of the Day 2/10

Verse of the Day 2/10

Romans 5:8-9
New King James Version

But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.

One of my favorite rock'n roll songs when I was a teenager was Boston's "More Than a Feeling".  It was a song about love lost, someone walking away and the emotions that went along with it.

I read a devotional this morning from Max Lucado which focused on John 3:16 and God's "agape love", "God so loved the world".  God's love is more than a feeling.
Lucado writes, "Agape love. Less an affection, more a decision; less a feeling, more an action. As one linguist describes, "[Agape love is] an exercise of the Divine will in deliberate choice, made without assignable cause save that which lies in the nature of God Himself....Stated more simply: junkyard wrecks and showroom models share equal space in God's garage."

God's love is more than a feeling.  It is put on display, it is demonstrated to us.  These thoughts are what lead to today's verses.  "God demonstrating" his love for us by sending Jesus and Jesus dying for us and rising up for us to bring us eternal life.  We were lost in sin, God didn't let us walk away, He called us, and demonstrates His love for us every day.  But it doesn't end there.  His love for us is eternal, never changing

Out of the ivory palaces
into a world of woe,
only his great eternal love
made my Savior go.

Blessings,
Mike

Romans 5:6-11
New King James Version

Christ in Our Place

For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. 10 For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. 11 And not only that, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation.
