Verse of the Day 2/4

Verse of the Day 2/4

Psalm 121:7-8
New International Version

The Lord will keep you from all harm—
    he will watch over your life;
the Lord will watch over your coming and going
    both now and forevermore.

I recently posted from Philippians 4:7 how God's peace will guard our hearts.  This time through the Bible I'm reading in the NIV.  I usually study using the English Standard Version which translates "watches over" to "keep you".  The meaning is basically the same but the "watches over" tends to go along with the context of Phiiipians 4.

Four timess in this short psalm we are told that the Lord watches over and will keep watching over our lives.  He is the Good Shepherd and He is also the Mighty Fortress that we sing about.  As He watches over us, as He guards our hearts, we are to do our best to guard our hearts as well., to be "more like the master".

1 More like the Master I would ever be,
More of His meekness, more humility;
More zeal to labor, more courage to be true,
More consecration for work He bids me do.

Refrain:
Take Thou my heart, I would be Thine alone;
Take Thou my heart and make it all Thine own;
Purge me from sin, O Lord, I now implore,
Wash me and keep me Thine forevermore.

2 More like the Master is my daily prayer;
More strength to carry crosses I must bear;
More earnest effort to bring His kingdom in,
More of His Spirit, the wanderer to win. (Refrain)

3 More like the Master I would live and grow;
More of His love to others I would show;
More self-denial, like His in Galilee,
More like the Master I long to ever be.

Read the Psalm below.  Sing the hymn.  Ask Him to watch over you and keep you His forevermore.

Blessings,
Mike

Psalm 121
New International Version

Psalm 121

A song of ascents.

I lift up my eyes to the mountains—
    where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord,
    the Maker of heaven and earth.

He will not let your foot slip—
    he who watches over you will not slumber;
indeed, he who watches over Israel
    will neither slumber nor sleep.

The Lord watches over you—
    the Lord is your shade at your right hand;
the sun will not harm you by day,
    nor the moon by night.

The Lord will keep you from all harm—
    he will watch over your life;
the Lord will watch over your coming and going
    both now and forevermore.
