Proverbs 2:1-2

The Value of Wisdom

2 My son, if you receive my words,
And treasure my commands within you,
2 So that you incline your ear to wisdom,
And apply your heart to understanding;

I began sending out a "Verse of the Day" back in 1994, as part of a men's Bible Study group.  I've been posting them on a blog since 2007.  Through the years I've been involved in many Bible Studies going through much of the Bible, some passages several times.  I am currently involved in studies on the miracles of Jesus and the parables of Jesus.  I'm familiar with all of them, but I am amazed at how each time you go through a passage God through His Spirit reveals something to you.  Reading today's verses brought this to mind.

I enjoy reading commentaries and sermons from teachers such as John Piper, Martyn Lloyd Jones, Charles Spurgeon and many others.  Each of them have great insight into the Word which have come from  what is described in today's verses and passage from Proverbs 2. Read them again,  Receive His words.  Treasure them, lean into them AND apply your heart to the understanding that comes from God in doing so.

When we receive, treasure  and apply God's word we are walking with the Lord, "in the light of His Word".  Trust and obey, there's no other way.

1 When we walk with the Lord
in the light of his word,
what a glory he sheds on our way!
While we do his good will,
he abides with us still,
and with all who will trust and obey.

Refrain:
Trust and obey, for there's no other way
to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.

2 Not a burden we bear,
not a sorrow we share,
but our toil he doth richly repay;
not a grief or a loss,
not a frown or a cross,
but is blest if we trust and obey. [Refrain]

3 But we never can prove
the delights of his love
until all on the altar we lay;
for the favor he shows,
for the joy he bestows,
are for them who will trust and obey. [Refrain]

4 Then in fellowship sweet
we will sit at his feet,
or we'll walk by his side in the way;
what he says we will do,
where he sends we will go;
never fear, only trust and obey.

2 My son, if you receive my words,
And treasure my commands within you,
2 So that you incline your ear to wisdom,
And apply your heart to understanding;
3 Yes, if you cry out for discernment,
And lift up your voice for understanding,
4 If you seek her as silver,
And search for her as for hidden treasures;
5 Then you will understand the fear of the Lord,
And find the knowledge of God.
6 For the Lord gives wisdom;
From His mouth come knowledge and understanding;
7 He stores up sound wisdom for the upright;
He is a shield to those who walk uprightly;
8 He guards the paths of justice,
And preserves the way of His saints.
9 Then you will understand righteousness and justice,
Equity and every good path.

10 When wisdom enters your heart,
And knowledge is pleasant to your soul,
11 Discretion will preserve you;
Understanding will keep you,
