Verse of the Day 4/14

Verse of the Day 4/14

Proverbs 3:5-6
English Standard Version

Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
    and do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge him,
    and he will make straight your paths.

In yesterday's post from Proverbs 2, we were called upon to "incline" our ears, listen to God, lean into Him for wisdom and understanding.  Today's verses follow along with that, telling us "not to lean" on our own understanding.

This morning I was reading in Luke 12 in my read through the New Testament plan where we find the parable of the "rich fool".  He had amassed a good fortune and asked himself what he should do.  In leaning on his own understanding he decided that he needed more space more barns to store what he had accumulated.  His thoughts were not towards God or anyone else.  He did not consider the long term in spiritual matters.

Jesus confronted him with a grim scenario.  Tonight your sould will be required of you, what will happen then to what you have stored up?  It will go to others and he would face the consequences of being rich toward himself but "not rich" to God.

Today's verses encourage us to "trust in the Lord with all our hearts", to acknowledge Him in all of our ways and He will make straight our path.  We can avoid the pitfalls and tragedies of the "rich fool".  We are to acknowledge Him, submit to Him, follow Him, prasie Him and tell of Him.  When we do, we won't have to worry about when about tomorrow or building new barns to store all of our stuff.

Lean in and lean on Jesus.

  1. What a fellowship, what a joy divine,
    Leaning on the everlasting arms;
    What a blessedness, what a peace is mine,
    Leaning on the everlasting arms.
    • Refrain:
      Leaning, leaning,
      Safe and secure from all alarms;
      Leaning, leaning,
      Leaning on the everlasting arms.
  2. Oh, how sweet to walk in this pilgrim way,
    Leaning on the everlasting arms;
    Oh, how bright the path grows from day to day,
    Leaning on the everlasting arms.
  3. What have I to dread, what have I to fear,
    Leaning on the everlasting arms?
    I have blessed peace with my Lord so near,
    Leaning on the everlasting arms.

Blessings,
Mike

Proverbs 3:1-8
English Standard Version

Trust in the Lord with All Your Heart

My son, do not forget my teaching,
    but let your heart keep my commandments,
for length of days and years of life
    and peace they will add to you.

Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you;
    bind them around your neck;
    write them on the tablet of your heart.
So you will find favor and good success[a]
    in the sight of God and man.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
    and do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge him,
    and he will make straight your paths.
Be not wise in your own eyes;
    fear the Lord, and turn away from evil.
It will be healing to your flesh[b]
    and refreshment[c]

 to your bones.
