Verse of the Day 1/13

Verse of the Day 1/13

Matthew 7:13-14
New International Version

13 "Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.

We'll continue with our verses from the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 7.  In the short passage below we read of the "narrow way/narrow gate and the highway.  The passage begins with the call to do unto others what you would have them do to you.  When you think about it, it flows right into the thought of the narrow way.  There aren't many that think much of that principle in life, let alone apply it.  But we are called to do so.  It should be part of who we are.  It is a characteristic of those who are on, who have taken the "narrow path".

It is a short but sobering passage, especially when you read that "only a few find it".  The challenge, and our hearts desire should be to help others find it.  I often quote hyms in these posts but today I'll take a quote from the Led Zepelin song "Stairway to Heaven".  I don't know anything about their theology, but they got this statement right, "yes, there are two paths you can take, but in the long run, there's still time to change the road you're on'.  It applies to anyone reading this passage.  There's not only time for us, but there is time to point it out to others along the way.

Not all roads lead to God, lead to Heaven.  There is only one way, and that is through our Lord Jesus Christ.

There's a path that's wide that many have followed
It's a low road that seems full of the night
But at the end of that road, it's dreary and lonesome
The long walk back is an uphill climb
There's a narrow path that fewer have followed
It's a high road that will lead to the light
At the end of that road is peace and comfort
You won't walk alone, God is at your side

[Chorus]
Take the narrow way, walk the high road
Like an arrow, stay straight on the line
If you find yourself where you have to decide
Walk away from the path that is wide
Take the narrow way.   (Narrow Way - Bluegrass Gospel Group)

12 So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.

The Narrow and Wide Gates

13 "Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.
