Verse of the Day 1/24

Verse of the Day 1/24

Matthew 9:37-38
English Standard Version

37 Then he said to his disciples, "The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; 38 therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest."

In Matthew chapter 9 Jesus has been travelling and ministering to people along the way.  He healed two blind men, healed a man who had been unable to speek; he taught in the synagogues and proclaimed the gospel.  In today's passage (below) verse 36 it says that "Jesus saw the crowds".  What did he see.  He saw crowds of people who were weary and scattered; he felt compassion for them and he acted upon that and served them, healed them and taught them.

In today's verses Jesus states that the "harvest is plentiful but the laborers are few".  What was nneded then is pretty much the same as now.  If we are to be one of the laborers, we must "see" the needs of the crowd of people around us.  We must have compassion on them and we must act upon the Holy Spirit's promptings, which involves engaging people with the heart of Christ.

Everyone needs compassion
A love that's never failing
Let mercy fall on me

Everyone needs forgiveness
The kindness of a Saviour
The hope of nations

[Chorus:]
Saviour, he can move the mountains
My God is mighty to save
He is mighty to save
Forever Author of Salvation
He rose and conquered the grave
Jesus conquered the grave

Let our prayer be to "let mercy fall on me' and spread the gospel message of forgiveness, hope and the kindness/love of our Savior.  Our God is mighty to save.

Blessings,
Mike

Matthew 9:35-38
English Standard Version

The Harvest Is Plentiful, the Laborers Few

35 And Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction. 36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37 Then he said to his disciples, "The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; 38 therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest."
