Verse of the Day 1/9

Verse of the Day 1/9

Matthew 6:20-21
English Standard Version

20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Matthew 5-7 is full of verses that can be posted around the home, on refrigerators, on your desk or framed and put on your walls.  The Sermon on the Mount gives us some of the most important information, guidelines and instructions on just how to live the Christian life. In a day when many are concerned about their portfolios, Jesus lets us know what investments will truly count, ones that will carry beyond this world to eternity.

All of these verses in the sermon should cause us to examine ourselves.  They will reveal where our hearts are at, what has our attention, where our focus is.  It has the power to open our eyes and soften our hearts to the One who can give us what we truly need now and for eternity.

A.W. Tozer writes, "The man who has God for his treasure has all things in One. Many ordinary treasures may be denied him, or if he is allowed to have them, the enjoyment of them will be so tempered that they will never be necessary to his happiness. Or if he must see them go, one after one, he will scarcely feel a sense of loss, for having the Source of all things, he has in One all satisfaction, all pleasure, all delight. Whatever he may lose he has actually lost nothing, for he now has it all in One, and he has it purely, legitimately, forever."   - The Pursuit of God (London, 1967), page 20.

Where is your treasuree today?  Hopefully not in your 401k, your house or garage.

Blessings,
Mike

Matthew 6:19-24
English Standard Version

Lay Up Treasures in Heaven

19 "Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust[a] destroy and where thieves break in and steal, 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

22 "The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light, 23 but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!

24 "No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.
