Verse of the Day 6/25

Through the Bible - Job 7-9, Acts 8:4-25

Good morning,
The grandfather of a friend of mine passed away earlier this week.  They had been close and I was told that he was like a father to my friend.   In reading the obituary there was comfort in reading that he was a Christian.  Still, the many loved ones mentioned would feel the loss.

The loss of loved ones is something we all must face, something that you realize more when you are a grandparent yourself.

Earlier in the week I was reading in 1 Corinthians 15 were Paul writes of how the dead in Christ will be raised and made whole. These are verses that have helped me, not only in the loss of loved ones but hope for the living that they will be made whole.

1 Corinthians 15:52 (Amplified Bible)  In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the [sound of the] last trumpet call. For a trumpet will sound, and the dead [in Christ] will be raised imperishable (free and immune from decay), and we shall be changed (transformed).  53For this perishable [part of us] must put on the imperishable [nature], and this mortal [part of us, this nature that is capable of dying] must put on immortality (freedom from death).

Do you find comfort in these verses for your loved ones and friends?

If you do, you should also take notice of the last verse of the passage.  May we be steadfast, immovable, and be found abounding in the work of the Lord should He come today.

1 Cor. 15:58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be firm (steadfast), immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord [always being superior, excelling, doing more than enough in the service of the Lord], knowing and being continually aware that your labor in the Lord is not futile [it is never wasted or to no purpose].  Amplified Bible

MacArthur writes that "the hope of resurrection makes all the efforts and sacrifices in the Lord's work worthwhile.  No work done in His name is wasted in light of eternal glory and reward."

Blessings,
Mike

1 Corinthians 15:51-58 (New Living Translation)

51 But let me reveal to you a wonderful secret. We will not all die, but we will all be transformed! 52 It will happen in a moment, in the blink of an eye, when the last trumpet is blown. For when the trumpet sounds, those who have died will be raised to live forever. And we who are living will also be transformed. 53 For our dying bodies must be transformed into bodies that will never die; our mortal bodies must be transformed into immortal bodies.

54 Then, when our dying bodies have been transformed into bodies that will never die, this Scripture will be fulfilled:

"Death is swallowed up in victory.
55 O death, where is your victory?
O death, where is your sting?"

56 For sin is the sting that results in death, and the law gives sin its power. 57 But thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ.

58 So, my dear brothers and sisters, be strong and immovable. Always work enthusiastically for the Lord, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless.
